The Solgami project will provide solar energy to those who find it hardest to use this type of renewable energy – apartment dwellers. Few people will coordinate the installation of private solar panels on the roof of apartment buildings, and hanging “curtains” is easy and simple.

Solgami is a complex material that generates electricity when sunlight falls on it, and in doing so lets that light in. This is ensured by its broken structure: the folds of the material make it look like an origami figure.

The material will be delivered to customers in the form of blinds with an unusual design. The creators promise that such a device will not only fit into the interior, but also provide the room with a lot of natural light – it will be reflected from the edges of the blinds, falling into different parts of the room, Fast Company writes.

The architect and director of the Australian design firm Prevalent, Ben Berwick, who works on Solgami, explains that the project has an important ideological message: “We expect to change the position of the city, from a place of consumption of resources to a place of their production.” Hi-tech blinds will allow many people to personally participate in the global process of transition to renewable energy.
